Laurel Street is partnering with The Durham Housing Authority (“DHA”), to develop the Commerce Street apartments in Durham, NC on DHA’s existing 519/Liberty Street housing site in downtown Durham. Commerce Street is an intergenerational community and includes 172 units of housing for seniors and families in 2 buildings. The senior building consists of 88 units of one and two-bedroom units for households with incomes ranging from 30% of median income to market rate. The 84-unit family building consists of 1-to-4-bedroom units for families with incomes ranging from 30% to market rate. Project based vouchers are available on the 30% AMI units. The community will increase the opportunity for all income levels seeking to take advantage of Downtown Durham’s high quality of life.
Commerce Street is the second phase of the redevelopment of 519/Liberty Street with funding from a Choice Neighborhood Implementation Grant awarded to the Durham Housing Authority. Commerce Street amenities for the seniors include an elevator accessed building, fitness center, laundry room, indoor/outdoor seating, tenant storage areas, and community center. The family amenities include a elevator accessed building, playground/tot-lot, fitness center, bike storage, computer center, laundry room, and tenant storage areas. Apartment features include spacious floor plans, patio/balconies, washer/dryers, and exterior storage.
